Animation, which continues to attract worldwide attention, is also important from the perspective of the animation archive. Since January 1917, when the first domestically produced Japanese animation was released to the public, there have been approximately 16,000 works and 180,000 episodes available as of January 2025. The number of works has continued to evolve in a wide range of areas, greatly influenced by changes in production methods, production formats (methods, techniques, etc.), release formats, and master recording media. As a result, there are many issues that are difficult for individual companies to solve alone, and various schemes, including industry-academia-government schemes, are being considered for the "animation archive.
In this symposium, "Anime Archive Vision 2025: Bringing All Anime Footage into the Future," we will explore the possibilities of the "Anime Footage Archive" with moderators and specialists.
