[Content]
Animation continues to attract worldwide attention. Since January 21, 1917, when the first Japanese animation was released to the public, there have been approximately 160,000 works known as of January 2025, of which approximately 180,000 episodes are currently known.
The animation industry has been evolving in a wide range of areas against a backdrop of major changes in production methods, production formats (methods, techniques, etc.), and forms of public exhibition. In the meantime, through the "animation archive situation," which is considered important for the animation industry, we will discuss the history of Japanese animation and its appeal, as well as the future of the archive, with the theme "All Animation Images for the Future" on January 29 and February 27. The theme of the two sessions, January 29 and February 27, will be "The Future of All Animation Footage".
This is the first installment of the anime archive situation.
Symposiums will be held by panelists who are deeply involved in the changes in the animation production environment and the role and system of the archive. The second symposium will be held on February 27 (Thursday).
