Overview
Anime, which continues to attract worldwide attention, is also gaining recognition from an archival perspective. Since the release of Japan’s first domestically produced animation in January 1917, approximately 16,000 works and 180,000 episodes have been identified as of January 2025.
Over the years, anime has evolved across a wide range of areas, influenced by changes in production methods, techniques, distribution formats, and original media. As a result, anime archiving presents challenges that are difficult for individual companies to address alone, leading to discussions across various sectors, including industry, academia, and government.
At this symposium, “Anime Archive Vision 2025 – Carrying All Anime Footage to the Future,” moderators and specialists will explore the possibilities of “Anime Video Archives” and their future potential.
Part 1: Short Seminar – “The State of Anime Archives”
Part 2: Panel Discussion – “Anime Video Archives”
