【Overview】
Since 1917, when Japan’s first domestically produced animated work was screened in Asakusa Rokku, animation has evolved alongside innovative visual technologies and has been preserved across a wide variety of media formats.
In addition to video, audio, and subtitles, the production materials that generate them are also valuable cultural assets.
To pass these materials on to the future in a form that can be utilized for business development, industry promotion, and human resource cultivation, updates to media and technology, securing funding and personnel, and proper rights management are essential. These are common challenges shared across the animation-related industries.
This symposium invites specialists working at the forefront of visual archiving from a utilization perspective to look at both the history and future of anime visual archives. Together, we will examine sustainable archiving frameworks for the years ahead.
• The overall structure of anime visual archives and definitions of original materials
• Archive specifications that enable smooth utilization
• The urgent need for human resource development to support anime visual archives
• Sustainable archives considered through the lens of preservation costs
