【Overview】
Anime archives are not merely preservation activities, but an essential form of “infrastructure” that supports education, human resource development, cultural inheritance, and the sustainable growth of industry.
However, in practice, archiving efforts face persistent challenges such as funding, organizational structures, human resources, and the development of environments for effective utilization. As these activities tend to generate little direct profit, it is often difficult for them to be recognized as viable organizational or business initiatives. At the same time, there is no doubt that anime archives function as a fundamental social foundation directly connected to education, talent development, and cultural continuity.
In this symposium, speakers will share their experiences, case studies, and challenges while discussing standards for archiving, return and utilization models, rights clearance, and educational use.
Based on the practical knowledge and issue awareness of the speakers, the symposium will delve into the overall picture of anime archives through multiple perspectives, including preservation standards, return models, rights management, and educational applications. By reflecting on the “past” of anime archives, this session aims to explore effective and sustainable frameworks that will connect them to a viable future.

【Main Discussion Topics (tentative)】 Topics may be subject to change.
• The overall structure of anime archives
• The “value” and “return” of anime archives: criteria and decision-making on what should be preserved
• Human resource development, organizational structures, and collaboration supporting anime archives
• Examination of systems, contracts, and subsidies
